What We Mean by 'City Centre'

When we say Prague city centre, we mean Prague 1 and the surrounding central districts:

  • Old Town (Staré Město) — Astronomical Clock, Old Town Square
  • New Town (Nové Město) — Wenceslas Square, National Theatre
  • Lesser Town (Malá Strana) — Prague Castle area
  • Josefov — Jewish Quarter

All destinations above are covered by the base price of 940 CZK. If your destination is slightly outside (Prague 2, 3, 5, or 7), the price may be the same or slightly adjusted — enter your address for an instant quote.

After you land at Prague Airport

Prague has two passenger terminals next to each other. Terminal 1 handles flights from outside the Schengen area — the UK, Ireland, the US, the Middle East and Asia, for example — so you'll go through passport control before baggage claim. Terminal 2 handles flights from Schengen countries, with no passport check on arrival. Either way, allow around 15–40 minutes from landing to the arrivals hall, depending on queues and how quickly bags arrive.

Your driver already knows your flight and waits in the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name: in Terminal 1 by the Mattoni bar on your left as you come out, and in Terminal 2 by the information centre just outside the arrivals hall. See the meeting point guide for directions. If your bags are delayed or lost, report it at the airline's baggage desk before you leave the baggage hall, then message us on WhatsApp — your driver will wait.

A tip on money: the Czech Republic uses the Czech koruna (CZK), and cards are accepted almost everywhere. If you want cash, use a bank ATM rather than an exchange booth, and if a card machine or ATM offers to charge you in your home currency, choose CZK — the conversion offered is usually worse. Your transfer is already paid when you book, so there's nothing to pay the driver.

What counts as Prague city centre?

When people say “Prague city centre” they usually mean Prague 1: Old Town (Staré Město), the Jewish Quarter (Josefov), New Town (Nové Město) around Wenceslas Square, and Malá Strana and the castle district across the river. Parts of Prague 2, such as Vinohrady and the area around Náměstí Míru, are also just minutes away.

All of these are 20–35 minutes from the airport by car. You don't need to pick a “zone” — just enter your address and the booking form shows your upfront price for that exact drop-off.

The route from the airport into the centre

From the airport, your driver takes Evropská, the main road into the city, through Dejvice. From Vítězné náměstí there are several ways to the centre — through Letná and across the river, along the embankment, or through the city's tunnel ring — and your driver picks the quickest one on the day using live traffic.

The airport is close to the city by European standards (about 17 km in a straight line), which is why a private transfer is often quicker door to door than public transport: Trolleybus 59 to Nádraží Veleslavín and then metro line A takes around 45–60 minutes including changes and walking — longer with luggage.

Getting around the centre once you're there

Central Prague is best explored on foot — the walk from Old Town Square to Charles Bridge takes about 10 minutes, and from the bridge up to Prague Castle about 20–25 minutes. For longer hops, the metro (lines A, B and C) and trams run frequently from early morning until around midnight, with night trams after that.

Public transport tickets are time-based and cover metro, trams and buses; buy them from ticket machines or in the PID Lítačka app. Remember that the Airport Express bus needs its own ticket (200 CZK) and isn't covered by standard tickets.

Best time to land for a quick transfer

Traffic into Prague is lightest late morning, early afternoon and in the evening. Flights landing between about 10:00 and 15:00, or after 19:00, usually see the fastest drives into the centre. Weekday rush hours (roughly 7:00–9:30 and 15:30–18:30) can add 10–15 minutes.

Whatever time you land, your price doesn't change with traffic — only pickups between 00:00 and 08:00 have the night rate, and that's shown before you pay.

Going back: the city centre to Prague Airport

The return journey from the city centre to Václav Havel Airport usually takes about 25–40 minutes, but allow extra time on weekday mornings (roughly 7:00–9:30) and late afternoons (roughly 15:30–18:30), when the main roads out of the city are at their busiest. Airlines generally recommend arriving 2 hours before a flight within the Schengen area and about 3 hours before a long-haul or non-Schengen flight, so for most travellers a pickup 2½–3½ hours before departure is about right.

Book the return when you book your arrival, or any time later. We need at least 90 minutes' notice for daytime pickups and 8 hours' notice for pickups between 00:00 and 08:00 — so if you have an early-morning flight, book it the day before. Pickups between 00:00 and 08:00 are charged at the night rate (+50%), and the price shown when you book already includes it.

Your driver collects you at your building's door, loads the luggage and drops you at the departures level of the right terminal: Terminal 1 for flights outside the Schengen area (for example the UK, US, Middle East and Asia) and Terminal 2 for Schengen flights. If you're unsure, check your booking or boarding pass — your driver can confirm too.

Luggage, families and groups heading to the city centre

Every fare includes luggage. A Comfort car (VW Passat / Skoda Superb) or SUV (Skoda Kodiaq) takes up to 4 passengers with 4 bags included — typically 2 large suitcases and 2 cabin bags. Up to 2 extra large bags can be added for 300 CZK each. If you're 4 people with more than 6 bags, one car isn't enough, and the booking form will suggest a minivan or a second car.

For 5–7 passengers, book the minivan (VW Transporter) or the Mercedes Vito / V-Class: both take up to 7 people and 7 bags, priced per vehicle rather than per person. Bringing a folded pram, skis or golf bags? Mention it in the booking note so we keep space for them.

Every passenger needs a seat, including children, so count everyone when you choose the number of passengers.
