What to expect on your transfer to Malá Strana

Your English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Václav Havel Airport with a name sign, helps with your luggage and drives you straight to your address in Malá Strana. The trip takes about 25–35 min depending on traffic.

Your price is shown upfront and locked when you book. Night pickups (00:00–08:00) and extra luggage are charged as shown on our prices page.

Getting to Malá Strana from the airport

Your driver follows Evropská into the city and comes down to the river at Klárov, the gateway to Malá Strana. That is usually a calmer approach than going through the Old Town.

Where the car can stop in Malá Strana

Many Malá Strana streets are narrow, cobbled and one-way, and Charles Bridge is pedestrian-only. For hotels on small lanes or on Kampa Island, the driver stops at the nearest point cars can reach, normally just a few steps away, and walks your bags to the door.

Good to know about Malá Strana

  • Nerudova and the streets near Charles Bridge are busiest from late morning; arriving early or in the evening means easier drop-offs.
  • Malostranská metro station (line A) is at the edge of the district, by Klárov.
  • Petřín Hill and its funicular are within walking distance for a view over the whole city.

About Malá Strana

Malá Strana sits between Charles Bridge and Prague Castle, with baroque palaces, quiet courtyards and riverside hotels. Trams stop on the main streets only, so a private car is the easiest way to reach your door.

Nearby: Charles Bridge, St. Nicholas Church, Kampa Island, Wallenstein Garden, Petřín Hill.

After you land at Prague Airport

Prague has two passenger terminals next to each other. Terminal 1 handles flights from outside the Schengen area — the UK, Ireland, the US, the Middle East and Asia, for example — so you'll go through passport control before baggage claim. Terminal 2 handles flights from Schengen countries, with no passport check on arrival. Either way, allow around 15–40 minutes from landing to the arrivals hall, depending on queues and how quickly bags arrive.

Your driver already knows your flight and waits in the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name: in Terminal 1 by the Mattoni bar on your left as you come out, and in Terminal 2 by the information centre just outside the arrivals hall. See the meeting point guide for directions. If your bags are delayed or lost, report it at the airline's baggage desk before you leave the baggage hall, then message us on WhatsApp — your driver will wait.

A tip on money: the Czech Republic uses the Czech koruna (CZK), and cards are accepted almost everywhere. If you want cash, use a bank ATM rather than an exchange booth, and if a card machine or ATM offers to charge you in your home currency, choose CZK — the conversion offered is usually worse. Your transfer is already paid when you book, so there's nothing to pay the driver.

When to explore Malá Strana and Charles Bridge

Malá Strana is at its most beautiful early in the morning, before the tour groups arrive — around sunrise, Charles Bridge is almost empty, and the light on the castle is wonderful for photos. If you land in the evening, a short walk to the bridge after dropping your bags is a lovely first look at the city, with the castle lit up above you.

Restaurants in the area range from historic beer halls to quiet courtyard gardens. Prices close to the bridge are higher; walk a few streets uphill or south towards Újezd for better value. Many of the gardens below the castle, such as the terraced palace gardens, open seasonally — usually from spring to autumn.

The route into Malá Strana

From the airport your driver takes Evropská towards Dejvice, then comes down past the castle to the Klárov area at the foot of Malá Strana — usually quicker than crossing the river through Old Town. From Klárov it's a short drive through the district to your hotel or apartment. Outside rush hour the trip takes about 25 minutes.

Staying in Malá Strana

Malá Strana (Lesser Town) is the baroque district between the river and the castle hill: palaces, gardens, cobbled streets and church domes. It's a favourite with couples and repeat visitors because it's central but noticeably calmer than Old Town in the evening.

Popular streets and squares to stay on include Malostranské náměstí, Nerudova, Tržiště, the area around Kampa Island and Újezd. Many hotels are in historic buildings — lovely, but some have steep staircases and no lift, so check before you book if that matters to you.

What's on your doorstep

  • Charles Bridge — the Malá Strana end is just a few minutes' walk from most hotels.
  • St Nicholas Church on Malostranské náměstí, one of the finest baroque churches in Central Europe.
  • Kampa Island and the Lennon Wall, a short walk south of the bridge.
  • Wallenstein Garden, a formal palace garden near Malostranská metro.
  • Petřín Hill, with its funicular from Újezd, lookout tower and orchards with views over the city.

Getting around from Malá Strana

Trams run along the main streets of Malá Strana: tram 22 goes up to the castle and across the river towards Národní třída, and Malostranská metro station (line A) is at the northern edge of the district. Old Town Square is about 15 minutes away on foot across Charles Bridge.

Going back: Malá Strana to Prague Airport

The return journey from Malá Strana to Václav Havel Airport usually takes about 25–35 minutes, but allow extra time on weekday mornings (roughly 7:00–9:30) and late afternoons (roughly 15:30–18:30), when the main roads out of the city are at their busiest. Airlines generally recommend arriving 2 hours before a flight within the Schengen area and about 3 hours before a long-haul or non-Schengen flight, so for most travellers a pickup 2½–3½ hours before departure is about right.

Book the return when you book your arrival, or any time later. We need at least 90 minutes' notice for daytime pickups and 8 hours' notice for pickups between 00:00 and 08:00 — so if you have an early-morning flight, book it the day before. Pickups between 00:00 and 08:00 are charged at the night rate (+50%), and the price shown when you book already includes it.

Your driver collects you at your building's door, loads the luggage and drops you at the departures level of the right terminal: Terminal 1 for flights outside the Schengen area (for example the UK, US, Middle East and Asia) and Terminal 2 for Schengen flights. If you're unsure, check your booking or boarding pass — your driver can confirm too.

Luggage, families and groups heading to Malá Strana

Every fare includes luggage. A Comfort car (VW Passat / Skoda Superb) or SUV (Skoda Kodiaq) takes up to 4 passengers with 4 bags included — typically 2 large suitcases and 2 cabin bags. Up to 2 extra large bags can be added for 300 CZK each. If you're 4 people with more than 6 bags, one car isn't enough, and the booking form will suggest a minivan or a second car.

For 5–7 passengers, book the minivan (VW Transporter) or the Mercedes Vito / V-Class: both take up to 7 people and 7 bags, priced per vehicle rather than per person. Bringing a folded pram, skis or golf bags? Mention it in the booking note so we keep space for them.

Every passenger needs a seat, including children, so count everyone when you choose the number of passengers.
