Getting to Karlín from the airport

Karlín sits just east of the city centre. Your driver chooses the fastest way in at that time of day, avoiding the busiest central streets where possible.

Where the car can stop in Karlín

Karlín's straight, grid-like streets are some of the easiest in Prague to drive and stop on, so most hotels, offices and apartment buildings can be reached right at the door.

Good to know about Karlín

  • Florenc bus and coach station is next to Karlín, handy if you're continuing by long-distance bus.
  • Křižíkova (line B) and Florenc (lines B and C) metro stations are nearby.
  • Forum Karlín hosts big concerts. If you're arriving on a show night, mention it and we'll plan around the traffic.

About Karlín

Karlín is Prague's modern business and dining district along the river, with new office buildings, design hotels and Forum Karlín concert hall. It's close to Florenc bus station and the city centre.

Nearby: Forum Karlín, Florenc bus station, Karlín Square, Vítkov Hill, Karlín Studios.

After you land at Prague Airport

Prague has two passenger terminals next to each other. Terminal 1 handles flights from outside the Schengen area — the UK, Ireland, the US, the Middle East and Asia, for example — so you'll go through passport control before baggage claim. Terminal 2 handles flights from Schengen countries, with no passport check on arrival. Either way, allow around 15–40 minutes from landing to the arrivals hall, depending on queues and how quickly bags arrive.

Your driver already knows your flight and waits in the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name: in Terminal 1 by the Mattoni bar on your left as you come out, and in Terminal 2 by the information centre just outside the arrivals hall. See the meeting point guide for directions. If your bags are delayed or lost, report it at the airline's baggage desk before you leave the baggage hall, then message us on WhatsApp — your driver will wait.

A tip on money: the Czech Republic uses the Czech koruna (CZK), and cards are accepted almost everywhere. If you want cash, use a bank ATM rather than an exchange booth, and if a card machine or ATM offers to charge you in your home currency, choose CZK — the conversion offered is usually worse. Your transfer is already paid when you book, so there's nothing to pay the driver.

Eating, drinking and the riverside in Karlín

Karlín is one of Prague's best neighbourhoods for food. The streets around Křižíkova, Karlínské náměstí and Sokolovská are full of bistros, bakeries, specialty coffee and wine bars, and many open for breakfast — handy after an early flight. Karlínské náměstí, the leafy square in front of the Church of Sts Cyril and Methodius, is a pleasant place to start.

Along the river, Rohanský ostrov and the riverside paths are popular for walking, running and cycling, and you can follow the Vltava on foot towards Holešovice or back into the centre. Karlín is also flat, which makes it easy to get around with a pushchair or a small suitcase — unlike the hilly castle district.

The drive to Karlín

Karlín lies just east of the historic centre, next to the river. From the airport your driver usually takes the city's tunnel ring or the main roads north of the centre to reach it, avoiding the busy historic streets. The trip takes about 25–30 minutes outside rush hour.

Karlín: Prague's modern business district

Karlín (Prague 8) was rebuilt after the 2002 floods and has become one of Prague's most sought-after neighbourhoods: restored 19th-century buildings alongside modern offices, plus some of the city's best restaurants, cafés and bakeries along Křižíkova and Sokolovská. Many international companies have offices here, which makes it popular with business travellers.

Concert-goers know it for Forum Karlín, one of Prague's main music venues. On the hill above the district, Vítkov has the National Memorial and one of the largest equestrian statues in the world, with wide views over the city.

Getting around from Karlín

Metro line B runs through Karlín (Křižíkova and Florenc stations), and Florenc is also a transfer point for line C and the city's main coach station (ÚAN Florenc) for long-distance buses. Trams run along Sokolovská towards the centre, and Old Town is about 20–25 minutes on foot.

Business travel to Karlín

For meetings and conferences, a pre-booked car means you arrive on time without worrying about taxis or tickets. Your driver tracks your flight, so if it's delayed there's no need to call. You get a booking confirmation by email and we can send an invoice for expenses. We can also pick you up from your office or hotel for the return flight. Need a car for several meetings in one day? See our hourly chauffeur service.

Going back: Karlín to Prague Airport

The return journey from Karlín to Václav Havel Airport usually takes about 25–35 minutes, but allow extra time on weekday mornings (roughly 7:00–9:30) and late afternoons (roughly 15:30–18:30), when the main roads out of the city are at their busiest. Airlines generally recommend arriving 2 hours before a flight within the Schengen area and about 3 hours before a long-haul or non-Schengen flight, so for most travellers a pickup 2½–3½ hours before departure is about right.

Book the return when you book your arrival, or any time later. We need at least 90 minutes' notice for daytime pickups and 8 hours' notice for pickups between 00:00 and 08:00 — so if you have an early-morning flight, book it the day before. Pickups between 00:00 and 08:00 are charged at the night rate (+50%), and the price shown when you book already includes it.

Your driver collects you at your building's door, loads the luggage and drops you at the departures level of the right terminal: Terminal 1 for flights outside the Schengen area (for example the UK, US, Middle East and Asia) and Terminal 2 for Schengen flights. If you're unsure, check your booking or boarding pass — your driver can confirm too.

Luggage, families and groups heading to Karlín

Every fare includes luggage. A Comfort car (VW Passat / Skoda Superb) or SUV (Skoda Kodiaq) takes up to 4 passengers with 4 bags included — typically 2 large suitcases and 2 cabin bags. Up to 2 extra large bags can be added for 300 CZK each. If you're 4 people with more than 6 bags, one car isn't enough, and the booking form will suggest a minivan or a second car.

For 5–7 passengers, book the minivan (VW Transporter) or the Mercedes Vito / V-Class: both take up to 7 people and 7 bags, priced per vehicle rather than per person. Bringing a folded pram, skis or golf bags? Mention it in the booking note so we keep space for them.

Every passenger needs a seat, including children, so count everyone when you choose the number of passengers.
