What to expect on your transfer to Nové Město

Your English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Václav Havel Airport with a name sign, helps with your luggage and drives you straight to your address in Nové Město. The trip takes about 25–35 min depending on traffic.

Your price is shown upfront and locked when you book. Night pickups (00:00–08:00) and extra luggage are charged as shown on our prices page.

Getting to Nové Město from the airport

Your driver comes in on Evropská and crosses the centre, or uses the main north–south road that passes the National Museum at the top of Wenceslas Square, whichever is faster at that time of day.

Where the car can stop in Nové Město

The upper part of Wenceslas Square and the side streets are easy to reach by car. The lower end towards Můstek and Na Příkopě is largely pedestrian, so for hotels there the driver stops on the nearest street you can drive into.

Good to know about Nové Město

  • Muzeum metro (lines A and C) is at the top of the square and Můstek (lines A and B) at the bottom.
  • Prague main railway station (Hlavní nádraží) is roughly a 10-minute walk from the top of the square.
  • Old Town Square is about 10 minutes on foot from Můstek.

About Nové Město

Wenceslas Square is the commercial heart of Prague's New Town (Nové Město), surrounded by large hotels, shops and the National Museum. It's a short walk to Old Town and well placed for nightlife and dining.

Nearby: National Museum, Wenceslas Square, Na Příkopě, State Opera, Lucerna Passage.

After you land at Prague Airport

Prague has two passenger terminals next to each other. Terminal 1 handles flights from outside the Schengen area — the UK, Ireland, the US, the Middle East and Asia, for example — so you'll go through passport control before baggage claim. Terminal 2 handles flights from Schengen countries, with no passport check on arrival. Either way, allow around 15–40 minutes from landing to the arrivals hall, depending on queues and how quickly bags arrive.

Your driver already knows your flight and waits in the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name: in Terminal 1 by the Mattoni bar on your left as you come out, and in Terminal 2 by the information centre just outside the arrivals hall. See the meeting point guide for directions. If your bags are delayed or lost, report it at the airline's baggage desk before you leave the baggage hall, then message us on WhatsApp — your driver will wait.

A tip on money: the Czech Republic uses the Czech koruna (CZK), and cards are accepted almost everywhere. If you want cash, use a bank ATM rather than an exchange booth, and if a card machine or ATM offers to charge you in your home currency, choose CZK — the conversion offered is usually worse. Your transfer is already paid when you book, so there's nothing to pay the driver.

A square at the heart of Czech history

Wenceslas Square has been the stage for many of the most important moments in modern Czech history. In January 1969, the student Jan Palach set himself on fire near the top of the square in protest against the Soviet-led occupation; a memorial in the pavement in front of the National Museum marks the spot. Twenty years later, in November 1989, huge crowds gathered here during the Velvet Revolution that ended communist rule.

Today the square is a busy boulevard of shops, hotels and offices, but those moments are remembered — look out for the memorials as you walk up towards the museum.

The drive to Wenceslas Square and New Town

From the airport your driver heads into the city along Evropská and then across or around the centre to Nové Město, depending on traffic. Wenceslas Square sits on the far (south-east) side of the historic centre from the airport, so the drive usually takes 25–35 minutes — a little longer at rush hour.

The square itself is a long boulevard, with the National Museum at the top and Můstek at the bottom. Parts of it have limited vehicle access, so your driver stops on the nearest street open to cars when needed.

Staying around Wenceslas Square

New Town (Nové Město) was laid out in the 14th century and is now the city's commercial heart: hotels of every size, shopping streets like Na Příkopě, theatres, the Lucerna passage and plenty of restaurants. It's a practical base, with metro lines A, B and C all close by — Můstek (A and B) at the bottom of the square and Muzeum (A and C) at the top.

The streets right on the square can be busy late at night, so if you're a light sleeper, ask for a room at the back or look at the side streets towards Vinohrady and Karlovo náměstí.

Nearby sights in New Town

  • The St Wenceslas statue and the National Museum at the top of the square.
  • Na Příkopě and Náměstí Republiky, with the Municipal House and Powder Tower.
  • Charles Square (Karlovo náměstí), one of the largest squares in Europe.
  • The Dancing House on the riverbank, a 20-minute walk from the square.
  • Old Town Square, about 10 minutes on foot from Můstek.

Close to the main train station

Praha hlavní nádraží, the main railway station, is a few minutes' walk from the top of Wenceslas Square, which makes New Town a convenient base if you're travelling on by train. If you'd rather not walk with luggage, we can take you straight from the airport to the station or from your hotel to the station on departure day.

Going back: Wenceslas Square to Prague Airport

The return journey from Wenceslas Square to Václav Havel Airport usually takes about 25–40 minutes, but allow extra time on weekday mornings (roughly 7:00–9:30) and late afternoons (roughly 15:30–18:30), when the main roads out of the city are at their busiest. Airlines generally recommend arriving 2 hours before a flight within the Schengen area and about 3 hours before a long-haul or non-Schengen flight, so for most travellers a pickup 2½–3½ hours before departure is about right.

Book the return when you book your arrival, or any time later. We need at least 90 minutes' notice for daytime pickups and 8 hours' notice for pickups between 00:00 and 08:00 — so if you have an early-morning flight, book it the day before. Pickups between 00:00 and 08:00 are charged at the night rate (+50%), and the price shown when you book already includes it.

Your driver collects you at your building's door, loads the luggage and drops you at the departures level of the right terminal: Terminal 1 for flights outside the Schengen area (for example the UK, US, Middle East and Asia) and Terminal 2 for Schengen flights. If you're unsure, check your booking or boarding pass — your driver can confirm too.

Luggage, families and groups heading to Wenceslas Square

Every fare includes luggage. A Comfort car (VW Passat / Skoda Superb) or SUV (Skoda Kodiaq) takes up to 4 passengers with 4 bags included — typically 2 large suitcases and 2 cabin bags. Up to 2 extra large bags can be added for 300 CZK each. If you're 4 people with more than 6 bags, one car isn't enough, and the booking form will suggest a minivan or a second car.

For 5–7 passengers, book the minivan (VW Transporter) or the Mercedes Vito / V-Class: both take up to 7 people and 7 bags, priced per vehicle rather than per person. Bringing a folded pram, skis or golf bags? Mention it in the booking note so we keep space for them.

Every passenger needs a seat, including children, so count everyone when you choose the number of passengers.
