After you land at Prague Airport

Prague has two passenger terminals next to each other. Terminal 1 handles flights from outside the Schengen area — the UK, Ireland, the US, the Middle East and Asia, for example — so you'll go through passport control before baggage claim. Terminal 2 handles flights from Schengen countries, with no passport check on arrival. Either way, allow around 15–40 minutes from landing to the arrivals hall, depending on queues and how quickly bags arrive.

Your driver already knows your flight and waits in the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name: in Terminal 1 by the Mattoni bar on your left as you come out, and in Terminal 2 by the information centre just outside the arrivals hall. See the meeting point guide for directions. If your bags are delayed or lost, report it at the airline's baggage desk before you leave the baggage hall, then message us on WhatsApp — your driver will wait.

A tip on money: the Czech Republic uses the Czech koruna (CZK), and cards are accepted almost everywhere. If you want cash, use a bank ATM rather than an exchange booth, and if a card machine or ATM offers to charge you in your home currency, choose CZK — the conversion offered is usually worse. Your transfer is already paid when you book, so there's nothing to pay the driver.

The drive from Prague Airport to Old Town

Václav Havel Airport sits in Ruzyně, on the north-western edge of Prague, about 20 km by road from Old Town. From the terminal your driver joins Evropská, the main avenue into the city, and follows it through Vokovice and Dejvice to Vítězné náměstí. From there the fastest way into Old Town depends on the day's traffic: often via Letná and across the Čech Bridge straight onto Pařížská street, or along the river and across the Mánes Bridge to Jan Palach Square.

Outside rush hour the whole trip takes about 25 minutes; at busy times allow up to 35–40. Your driver uses live traffic, so you don't need to plan anything — just relax, and look out for the first views of the castle above the river as you come down towards the Vltava.

Drop-off in Old Town: pedestrian streets and access

Much of Old Town is pedestrian or has restricted vehicle access — Old Town Square itself, the lanes around the Astronomical Clock and most of Karlova street are closed to normal traffic. That's one reason a door-to-door car is so useful here: the metro stations are a walk away from most hotels, and pulling suitcases over cobblestones is hard work.

Your driver stops at your door wherever cars are allowed. Where they aren't, they stop at the nearest legal point — usually a minute or two away — and help carry your bags. To make it smooth:

  • Give the exact address and the hotel or apartment name when you book.
  • For apartments, ask your host where cars can stop and how check-in works (key box, door code, reception).
  • If you're arriving very late, tell your host your expected arrival time — we track your flight, but your host doesn't.

Where to stay in Old Town: a quick guide

  • Around Old Town Square — the most central spot, steps from the Astronomical Clock and Týn Church. Lively day and night, so ask for a room away from the street if you sleep lightly.
  • Josefov and Pařížská street — the former Jewish Quarter, with elegant Art Nouveau buildings, upscale shops and a quieter feel in the evenings.
  • Near Náměstí Republiky — next to the Municipal House and the Powder Tower, with metro line B and many trams. Convenient if you'll explore beyond the centre.
  • Around Charles Bridge and Karlova — atmospheric and photogenic, but busy with visitors from morning to late evening.
  • Bethlehem Square and the lanes south of Karlova — still central, with calmer side streets and plenty of restaurants.

All of these are within our Old Town transfer area, at the same upfront price.

What to see first after you arrive

Old Town is compact, so once your bags are dropped you can be at the main sights on foot within minutes. A good first walk: Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock (its figures move on the hour during the day), the twin towers of the Church of Our Lady before Týn, then along Karlova to Charles Bridge. Early morning and late evening are the quietest times on the bridge.

Other favourites include the baroque library hall of the Clementinum, the Powder Tower and the Municipal House at Náměstí Republiky, and the synagogues and Old Jewish Cemetery of Josefov — note that the Jewish Museum sites close on Saturdays and Jewish holidays.

Going back: Old Town to Prague Airport

The return journey from Old Town to Václav Havel Airport usually takes about 25–40 minutes, but allow extra time on weekday mornings (roughly 7:00–9:30) and late afternoons (roughly 15:30–18:30), when the main roads out of the city are at their busiest. Airlines generally recommend arriving 2 hours before a flight within the Schengen area and about 3 hours before a long-haul or non-Schengen flight, so for most travellers a pickup 2½–3½ hours before departure is about right.

Book the return when you book your arrival, or any time later. We need at least 90 minutes' notice for daytime pickups and 8 hours' notice for pickups between 00:00 and 08:00 — so if you have an early-morning flight, book it the day before. Pickups between 00:00 and 08:00 are charged at the night rate (+50%), and the price shown when you book already includes it.

Your driver collects you at your building's door, loads the luggage and drops you at the departures level of the right terminal: Terminal 1 for flights outside the Schengen area (for example the UK, US, Middle East and Asia) and Terminal 2 for Schengen flights. If you're unsure, check your booking or boarding pass — your driver can confirm too.

Luggage, families and groups heading to Old Town

Every fare includes luggage. A Comfort car (VW Passat / Skoda Superb) or SUV (Skoda Kodiaq) takes up to 4 passengers with 4 bags included — typically 2 large suitcases and 2 cabin bags. Up to 2 extra large bags can be added for 300 CZK each. If you're 4 people with more than 6 bags, one car isn't enough, and the booking form will suggest a minivan or a second car.

For 5–7 passengers, book the minivan (VW Transporter) or the Mercedes Vito / V-Class: both take up to 7 people and 7 bags, priced per vehicle rather than per person. Bringing a folded pram, skis or golf bags? Mention it in the booking note so we keep space for them.

Every passenger needs a seat, including children, so count everyone when you choose the number of passengers.
